Helen Keller Meets Anne Sullivan

Anne Sullivan went to the Keller home in March of 1887.  Using 'finger spelling,' she began with the word 'doll.'  Although curious at first, Helen then became uncooperative. Anne realized that the connection between the objects and the letters was not getting through to Helen.

It got so bad that Anne insisted that she and Helen be separated from the rest of the family in order to work on the communication efforts without distractions. She and Helen moved to a cottage on the family land.  More to come....
